The nearly perfect growing conditions of the 2016 vintage are on fine display with the eighth vintage of our celebrated Napa Valley Chardonnay. Starting with steady, mild conditions through the summer, a series of warm days at the end of the growing season helped bring the fruit to perfect ripeness at pick-time. With notes of honeysuckle, nectarine, and tropical fruit on the nose, the wine’s aromatics give way to a richly contoured palate that is notable for its plushness and adroit delivery of balance and acidity. Aged 19-months in 33% new French oak, the wine’s delicate framing complements flavors of caramelized peach, mango, pineapple and sweet oak to create a sultry expression of what our remarkable Bald Mountain vineyard blocks are particularly known-for. Closing with a soft yet sumptuous finish, the wine in its completeness, brings-to-mind the Grammy-award-winner, Adele, and her soulfully rendered testimonial to “Someone Like You”.

In keeping with the remarkable vintages that preceded this release, our 2015 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay presents a tantalizing combination of beguiling aromas and freshness. On the nose, light citrus, tropical fruit, and star jasmine announce the wine’s arrival. The palate is further greeted by hints of white peach, lemon curd, and subtle key lime. With its elegant oak framing and a flinty freshness that speaks to the wine’s minerality, one may be reminded of the gifted screen actress, Cate Blanchett, who in the early part of her career displayed an arresting freshness, vigor and underlying conviction, very much in keeping with England’s young monarch, Elizabeth-I, whom she so memorably portrayed. Barrel fermented and aged 19 months in 31% new French oak, the wine has undergone 100% malolactic fermentation.

The Charles Heintz Vineyard is located in Occidental, near the rocky Sonoma County coastline. The 30-year-old Chardonnay vines are planted on deep, desirable Gold Ridge Sandy Loam top-soils – to which many attribute the unique varietal expression shown by Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grown in the Sonoma Coast and Russian River appellations. The nearby Pacific brings deep and cooling fog over the vineyard nightly during the growing season, encouraging patient ripening and the development of delicate flavors.

Deep purple in hue, our 2014 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon presents an alluring study of curious contrasts, depth and texture. Aromas of fragrant red and black fruit elicit early inspection, giving way to an inviting mid-palate offering hints of blackberry, dried cranberry, cocoa, spice (recalling chocolate NECCO wafers), and savory, sweet tamarind. Chalky tannins help characterize the wine’s revealing structure that in turn finishes with a pleasing acidity and smooth, soft landing. Lithe, supple and familiar, this pleasing cabernet recalls a fine, favorite broken-in leather jacket, or perhaps the ballad by singer, song-writer Neil Young…backed up by Linda Ronstadt, and James Taylor in their triumphant rendition of Old Man…Take a look at my life; I’m a lot like you…”

Much of this Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced from the Caldwell Vineyard in Coombsville, an area of southeast Napa Valley where soils are characterized by a unique blend of red volcanic soils and clay. The vineyard is planted on a gently sloping plateau, and the comparatively temperate climate of the area, versus the warmer territory up valley, serves to lengthen the growing season. The grapes are allowed to achieve full ripeness without the pressure of heat extremes common in warmer areas, and low vigor soils throughout the vineyard create small, dense clusters. With the addition of vibrant dark fruit from our preferred vineyard sources in St. Helena and on Howell Mountain, the resulting wine is expressive and evocative.

Ruby red in the glass, this tantalizing blend signals its arrival with precociously heady aromas of black cherry and plum, complemented by hints of lightly toasted anise and baking spices. True to the storied upper reaches of Howell Mountain, flavors of ripe blackberry, black tea and peppercorn give way to a rustic mid-palate, with a pleasing acidity, and notable structure in-play. Aged 26 months in 31% new French Oak, the wine’s oak framing reveals what comes when skilled handling is deftly applied to fruit from this heralded appellation. The result reveals a teasing, but feisty and focused Hillside Blend, whose muscularity and nimbleness present a beguiling, layering of juxtapositions. With the wine’s pre-release staged during this summer’s season of movie blockbusters, we invite you to consider how this blend might compare to the lithesome Diana, Princess of the Amazon’s (a.k.a. Gal Gadot of Wonder Woman fame). 84% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon

Bearing an extraordinary combination of fruit from a trifecta of Napa Valley’s most celebrated vineyard blocks, the 2013 Cor Leonis Cabernet is the epitome of our winemaking philosophy. Beyond its deeply ruby hues, the wine’s alluring nose beckons with notes of blackberry, anise, and hints of softly tanned leather. This enticing invitation notwithstanding, the hallmarks of this brilliant 2013 vintage assert their notability with the dense flavors of ripe blackberry, blueberry, and black plum. Lush in the mouth, the wine teases further with hints of mocha and cocoa nib. Twenty four months of aging in 75% new French oak provides elegant framing for this wine’s concentration and boldness. With its seamless integration of both sweet and finely grained tannins, the wine is opulent on the palate, and delivers an indulgently silky finish of length and elegance.
